Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This policy explains what information TypeDle ("the site", "we") collects when you play, why, and what choices you have. TypeDle is a hobby project operated by an individual, not a company, but we still want to be clear and upfront about data handling.

Information we collect

Gameplay data stored in your browser

To keep the game working day to day, TypeDle stores small pieces of data in your browser's local storage. The game uses local storage rather than its own cookies for the items below. Some stored values are also sent to our API to authenticate your account, sync progress, and count daily results, as described below:

Your display preferences and practice filters stay on your device. When a daily round ends, we send its date, win or loss, number of attempts, and an outcome identifier to our API for global statistics. For guests, that identifier includes the randomly generated guest ID; for signed-in players, it includes the account identifier. This helps prevent duplicate results. Practice and shared challenge results are not submitted.

When you use account features, the session token stored on your device is sent to our API to authenticate requests. Signed-in daily results, including guesses and progress, are also sent to the API so they can be restored across devices. We do not use these gameplay identifiers to track you across other websites.

Offline cache

TypeDle registers a service worker so it keeps working without a connection and can be installed as an app. It caches the site's own files (code, styles, images) in your browser's cache storage. It stores no personal data, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Account data

Creating an account is optional. If you do, we store the username you choose, a cryptographically hashed version of your password, your streak, your stats, your history of completed daily puzzles, and the usernames of any friends you add. Your password is transmitted to our API over HTTPS when you register or sign in so it can be hashed or checked; it is not stored as plain text. Session records are stored to authenticate your device. This lets your progress sync across devices when you log in. We never ask for an email address, a real name, or any other personal detail. If you appear on the leaderboard, other players see only your username and your streak numbers.

Standard server logs

Like almost every website, our hosting providers (GitHub Pages for the site, Render for the stats/account API) automatically log basic technical information for security and reliability, such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps. We don't separately collect or analyze this data ourselves.

Third-party services

Cookies and your choices

You can clear this site's stored data, and block or delete cookies set by the services above, at any time through your browser's settings. Doing so may reset your in-progress puzzle or require you to log in again, but won't prevent you from playing. If ads are shown on this site, you can opt out of personalized advertising for participating providers via optout.aboutads.info or your Google Ad Settings linked above.

Children's privacy

TypeDle is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account or provided information to us, please contact us using the details below and we'll remove it.

Data retention and your rights

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data at any time by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, so contact us and we'll do our best to help.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
